portrait Hom (paysage ou portrait).JPG

Born in Paris in 1972, he is a self-taught artist with instinctive style. As an unconventional personality, his works are just as much. Working with charcoal, gouache felt, oil or even pen, each of his paintings appears as a combat, a hand-to-hand confrontation with matter from which arises a will: to reveal the deepest of the human being through the lines and color.

Most of Hom’s work revolves around the creation of monumental portraits. The choice of colors, the application of the material or the vivacity of the gesture are always done in order to show to the world his vision of the human being beyond appearances. His works capture and transcend the depth of feelings and the complexity of the emotions that overwhelm the human soul.

A BETTER WORLD

The “Un Monde Meilleur/A Better World” exhibition hosted at the SAC Bangkok by Hom Nguyen has highlighted the message of seeking hope and a better world after coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic. The exhibition, curated by us, has showcased new works featuring Nguyen’s signature portrait painting style that has gained international recognition.

Un Monde Meilleur: A Better World is an exhibition showcasing Nguyen’s latest series of paintings on canvas, featuring his signature portrait of faces that seem like strangers, yet they are so familiar. By using his expressive strokes, inspired by Francis Bacon, Nguyen creates links between the audience and the subjects of the portraits, connecting viewers with their soulful eyes beyond the first visual impact.

In his paintings, Nguyen creates space, volume and softness of the lines as the strokes dance across the canvas and bring out expressions behind the faces. This is also a rare occasion to see Nguyen’s works splashed with bright and vivid colors. This exhibition seeks to look past what is in front of us, and examine further below the surface, in search of a better world within.
