American graffiti artist
JonOne started tagging in the 1980s New York during the height of the city’s graffiti movement and where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Jean Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol at Studio 54. A signature of his art, the streaks of colors pays homage to his roots, representing the movement of subway train graffiti reproduced on canvas. Drawing inspiration from works of masters ranging from Kandinsky to Matisse and Pollock, JonOne’s works are known for their explosions of vibrant colors which breathe life into voids.
Born to Dominican parents in New York, JonOne – whose real name is John Perello – moved to Paris in the late 1980s following a meeting with artist and record producer Bando (Philippe Lehman), where he continued to pursue his artistic endeavors amongst celebrated artists of the time. Soon after, JonOne exhibited in Berlin, then Paris, and had one of his first solo exhibitions in Monaco. Since then, his works have graced galleries worldwide, from Tokyo to Geneva, New York, Hong Kong, and Brussels, along the way collaborating with companies including Lacoste, Guerlain, Perrier, Thalys, Agnès B, Air France, Leclerc and Tumi.
JonOne is also involved in charity projects in France, including creating a monumental fresco to shine the light on the plight of homeless people, and revamping Eric Cantona’s Rolls Royce with proceeds benefiting the cause.
